Question

I want to learn web design for personal bits, any ideas on where i can get started, i have a good knowledge of computers but have not a clue on web design..

I done a 3 year course on desktop design, but that was 8 years ago, so i like the design side and would like to put it back into practise by designing a few pages of my own

Free learning would be the obvious 1, but ideas would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Plenty of tutorials on the web if you look around.

Software to look at would be something like Macromedia Dreamweaver or Homesite.

Stay clear of Microsoft Frontpage, unless you're a shandy drinker.

Get yourself a good book on HTML.

Don't bite off more than you can chew - for now, ignore the popular buzz-words like of Java, ASP, PHP, COLDFUSION, etc... stick with simple HTML and you'll be fine.

You can also look at a number of online tutorials. Just do a search on "html tutorial", "web design", etc. on a decent search engine.

I was a total Novice at Web design 3 weeks ago, I bought a book called "Sams teach yourself Dreamweaver in 24 hours" and Dreamweaver, this is what i sorted for our company, took about three days.
Dreamweaver is definatly easy to use.

Doc, not bad for 3 weeks learning.

Could I advise you to have a "Click here to enter" link on your title page with the big globe - because one thing you learn is that your customers are very stupid and need to be forcibly told how to get into your site.

I actually thought of that when I uploaded everything
I`ll have to go and fix it
You have to make it fool proof, I`ve learnt that helping others around the office on the computers!!
