Why is Burnout 2 corrupting my memory cards?

Bought Burnout 2 for the Gamecube and when it comes to saving it's telling me that the memory card is corrupted and can't be saved on.
I can format the cards and save any other game on them but Burnout will then corrupt them (lost 13 hours of metroid prime, YAY!!) Bought another memory card but the same thing happens and exchanged the game but the same thing happens.
Could it be a dodgy batch of games thats causing this as I have no other ideas.
