Lost USB on XP Pro

I seem to have lost all contact with USB

No USB phericals work anymore, and I cannot see any mention of USB in the in the hardware list.

It's a Via P4 board, with 2 on board ports, and one of those twin USB PCI card jobbies.

any suggestions?

reboot, select Del or F2 to enter BIOS and check that your onboard USB support is enabled...

aha!

it works now its enabled in the bios...

now the pc won't shut down - it just hangs at the shut down screen
