TV output problems

I have an s-video connection from my computer to my tv to play dvd's etc. The only way I can view the movie is if I select the tv as the primary monitor but then all I can see on my computer is the desktop so changing the settings back is a hell of a job, is it possible to duplicate the computer display on both outputs.
Win xp, ATI Radeon 9600tx, Aldi special.
