Cool

I have an IBM Thinkpad A21m and need some more memory as it's struggling. Currently fitted is 64 MB SYNCH 100 MHz 3.3 volt SDRAM. Anyone know of a good place to get some and prices ? How much should I go for, running XP on a 600 MHz Pentium 3 ?

Thanks in advance, Phill

How does it run with 128 MB ?? Do you think 256 would be better ?

i got a few 64mb. check how many memory slots are free. email me.

you can run XP with 128mb. that's what's running on my tosh laptop, a PIII 650. as with PCs these days, the more memory, the better.

I would only recommend a minimum of 128Mb for XP. I ran it for a while on my Dell Optiplex (PIII 667Mhz) and it was just bareable. Definetely noticed the difference with 256MB.

It already has a 64 that is inserted into one of the slots and there is a spare slot. Think it would be better with 256 then

Thanks Phill

I think the key with Windows 2k/XP is that 128mb is about as much as the OS with one app running uses, so performance is significantly better with as little extra as 64mb, so the 128mb + 64mb option would give 192mb - this figure runs fine...

Right I interested in 2 times 128 MB and the single 256 MB memory modules, but looks like by Blueyonder email account isn't working so don't know if you emailed me....

Can I ask you to email me yet again on phillcocking@hotmail.com and we can go from there. I can pay the cash into your account this afternoon, to speed things along a little

Thanks Phill

PS Or contact me on MSN (phillcocking@hotmail.com)and we can do a deal!!

Cool

Rob and Dom,

I've sent you email from my hotmail account and have realised I need that memory more than ever now. It was like copy your email address from scoobynet, open the hotmail browser and wait for a few days, then paste your address and wait a few more days.....

Sorry for all the messing around, but we should be in contact with each other now!!

Thanks Phill

I'm having right dramas with my BY account and email alias's Looks like my babber alias has been disabled My others work fine.

Currently using phillc@blueyonder.co.uk or
phillcocking@hotmail.com

Sent emails back out again, and email BY support to fix it.

I edited my profile on scoobynet and it automatically changed my password. Great when you email alias isn't working

Thanks again, and sorry for the messing around.

Looks like I have done the deal with Dom now, thanks.

Rob sorry mate, but need to get the memory ASAP.

Ian, Why don't you contact Rob and buy some memory from him, it cheap and well worth it IMHO.

Thanks all, Phill

Phill,

If I could get the thing to work reliably I would! Took me 25 minutes to get the thing to power up this morning! I will try and strip it down over the weekend, and sort it if not I think it might be time for a new laptop.

Dom,

YHM.

The memory arrived this morning and I've spent the last 2 hours playing around with it, and can't seem to make it work.

I have tried it in 2 machine (IBM TP A21m and Tosh Sat Pro 4200) The IBM won't boot with the 1 x 256 MB stick full stop. The IBM screen won't even start ?? When I use my original stick with the new one (original stick in first bank) then the machine appears to boot. If I select bios options, then the machine reports 64 + 256 MB = 320 MB. If I simply allow the machine to boot normally after the IBM screen, the machine stops and says "windows could not start file missing \ corrupt.......syetem 32\drivers\pci.sys" It then tells you to repair the XP install.

Obviously then I rebooted with XP (in cd drive as my boot O/S) seems to start but stops at the restore windows option, second one I think. The machine then hangs

Any idea how else I can repair the install with both memory sticks installled. I haven't got anything important on the machine

When I try the memory stick (256 MB) in the Tosh, that seems to start then report a error with a memory address!!!

Am I losing my mind ??

Fair play to Dom, he already emailed me a few times and ultimately offered my money back, but I want the extra memory

Thanks Phill

Red face

PS If I use the 256 MB in the original slot with my 64 MB it won't boot and the IBM screen isn't shown

I think it looks like the memory is shagged.

IBM is a TP A21m (2628)

PPS and is so bloody slow with 64 MB
