Cool

I know some of you will already have some of these.....

I'm looking a speccing 3 802.11g (and thus 802.11b compatible) access points for a customer.

They need to support:
1) AP mode bridging
2) 802.1X authentication (and ideally WPA)
3) Connection for external antenna
4) Support for up to 50 users

Anyone got any ideas, feedback etc. The Dlink AP2000 in the US fits the bill, but you cant yet buy em in the UK

Help !

54G AP's really won't have that sort of functionality (WPA, .x1, Bridging etc) until the 802.11g has been finalised. D-Link UK are currently deciding whether to release their AP2000 before or after 54G finalisation.

Forgot to say that D-Link US has pre-spec information for the AP2000 i.e. WPA access, .x1 authenication etc. Currently the shipping version of the AP2000 is just a basic AP.

Yeh i guessed someone may mention that.... i know its only a draft standard but looks to be the one that all manufacturers are adopting. It appears that some do have drafty versions of some of the protocols.....

anyone got any makes ? models ?

waiting for a call back from cisco about the aironet roadmap so have that covered off.

Ahh..ha - didn't realise that mate.

Right as before i'm speccing some AP's for a customer and need to be able to:

1) Use 2 AP's in bridging mode to link two physically seperate segments together
2) Use another 2 for client access - so need to support MAC authentication at least but preferably 802.1X or better still WPA
3) Ideally will be 802.11g based as they already have a load of kit based on 802.11b, but some client cards can be flashed.

According to Cisco they arnt going to have a 802.11g card out till October for the aironet stuff !!!

Can you recomend/offer prices ???

Hi ids

As 54g AP's won't have functionality until ratification the best functional AP is the D-Link Airplus series running at 22Mbps. We have the AP900+ and AP1000+ AP's in.

AP900+
http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop...&ProductID=245

AP1000+
http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop...&ProductID=419

Both AP's offer all the functionaility your require - Bridging, 802.1x, 802.11b support etc (except WPA at the mo). If you want a quote then please email me giles@broadbandbuyer.co.uk

Hmmmm - thats what i though.

I did get a reply from dlink uk saying :

Thank you for your mail and your interest in D-Link. Please accept my apologies for the delay in response. The expected lead time is 2 - 3 weeks on the DWL-2000AP. Thank you in advance for your patience.

Have you heard anything that confirms this.. as these look the dadies...

Details are slightly hazy at the moment for the AP2000, At one point D-Link UK was not planning on releasing the AP2000 until the TI chipset (54G ratification)

From my D-link account manager. Been told 2-3 weeks, price TBA - reckon around £90 mark + VAT. Chipset unknown yet Mostly likely to be Intersil but D-Link are planning on moving across to the TI chipset. I am just awaiting confirmation on what the shipping functionality will be I will let you know ASAP.
