Video cards....

Well personally I wouldnt buy anything off this lot ever again. I bought a Geforce 2 Ultra off them last year and when it packed in after 6 months they tried to fob me off with a card that was £200 cheaper (i paid neary £300 for the Ultra at the time) by saying that:
a) my card was no longer in production so they couldnt replace it
b) graphics cards have come down in price and this is all mines was worth now a days
c) my card was second hand and therefore worth only £100, LOL
I had to get trading standards and eventualy Visa on to them before the replaced my card with an equivalently priced Geforce 3, that was 3 months after I had RMA'd it. And btw I was a long standing customer anol
Complete and utter cowboys IMHO.
edited to say try these guys for a card, they have the best customer service ever and are a small but dedicated family firm.

ok I think its about time for me to start thinking about Video cards again I'll probably get another 512meg of ram too..
I currently have a 1900XP AMD chip with a Gefore2 GTS
what sort of Real performance improvement am I going to see shelling out £150-£200? which of these would you recomend? I have done a search but not found anthing "very" recent.

There customer service sucks major *** a lot of the time and that isn't just my experience either I am afraid. Still, if they hagve something that I want, I will still order from them.

Do a search for 'problems with Overclockers UK' in Google groups, I think that this volume of complaints is far too high to even bother buying anything off them when there are far better, faster and more reputable companies quite happy to take your money.

I'd give kustompcs the thumbs up too. Also had great service from dabs.
Personally I would not order anything from overclockers. I ordered one of their cases from them once over the phone, "in stock next day delivery". It didn't turn up. When I *eventually* got to speak to someone in customer services they admitted they had a supply problem because the guy who made the cases had "hurt his thumb". I had hell of a job getting a full refund of the delivery charge from them too.
Gary.

What OS are you using BTW, bear in mind only XP, 2k and NT will recognise more than 512 meg, linux and other esoteric OS's not included
--why on earth change if you have 512 aready--
DTP, 3D rendering? But I doubt it

1) I'm a computer programmer
2) All I do is play games (and a little dev )
3) I currrently have 256 megs
4) I run 2k/Linux (Mandrake) and wouldn't go near XP
Thanks for all the info guys but it looks like I'll go for the 9500 pro and use the w1zard patch on it. I can't belive the price difference However I have had a MARKED improvement by using the latest detonator drivers that were just(recently) released.
I have ordered from overclockers before and not had any problems myself but with that many warnings I'll stear clear

The w1zard patch might not work Dizzy, its just a case of try it and see, I have heard of quite a few people having no luck with it, still a great card though. You say you play games, if you are thinking of running the likes of Quake 4 or Doom 3 I'd deffo go for the 9700 Pro as they are going to need it IMO. The 9700 Pro's are gonna come down in price fast now that the 9800 is on the go.
