Talking

How??

well this shows before and after and data size...

How???

And configuring scan levels in epo...

Virus scan 7 lets you assign different scan levels to different processes, so now our backup doesnt scan reads.. (there are scheduled scans set up, and we do scan reads and writes for everything else..)

Cheers to Jack and Colleagues.

It was Jason that suggested I had a play with it..

Still got to upgrade the secondary node on the cluster, but that can wait a week, just to make sure..

As ever, if you need any advice there's a bloke within kicking distance who knows what he's on about.

This is a little elementary:

Perform only incremental backups daily for *extremely* fast backups, with (obviously) a fuller backup (say of your whole net) as often as possible. Saves tapes as well.

We found the AV scanner did slow things significantly, but cannot (or rather, will not) disable it for fear of any kind of contaminated file being backed up for later distribution (even if it is the backup engine!!)

We cannot do an incremental backup for contractual reasons with our clients and for DR reasons..

Full backup has to be done, the data is well protected against viruses, and the av software is not disabled, just a different scan level set to the process..

I suggest you look at Virus Scan Enterprise 7, The new engine is a lot quicker (the one that first appeared in stinger iirc)
