Hi all....My computer is P4 1700,256 ram, XP and recently started to slow down when opening up a new program, it is especially bad if the internet has just been used (broadband). Are there any program downloads to clean up or check the PC, or does anyone have any ideas...

download adaware from lavasoft.de and run it..
do a search for all tmp files and delete
clear all your browser cache etc
unistall everything you don't need
run disk cleanup
run defrag
I have also noticed IE6 is now a complete system hog since latest service packs and upgrades..

Windows XP uses the Prefetch folder to optimize Windows startup. Sometimes the files in the Prefetch folder can conflict with the current versions of the software on a computer. By emptying the Prefetch folder, you force Windows to reoptimize its startup.
To Empty the Prefetch folder:
Close all running programs.
Right-click on the Windows Start button, and then click Explore on the shortcut menu. Windows Explorer opens.
In the left pane, navigate to C:\Windows\Prefetch (the path may vary if your Windows installation has been customized). Click the Prefetch folder in the left pane. The files in the folder appear in the right pane.
On the Edit menu, click Select All.
On the File menu, click Delete. All the items in the Prefetch folder move to the Recycle Bin.
Close Windows Explorer.
Restart Windows.
