Is this true? We're just on the verge of buying a new monitor (http://www.dabs.com seems quite cheap) but I'm sure I read that they aren'r good for games or maybe games aren't good for the monitors! It could just be a brain fart but could someone enlighten me please?
Thanks.

If your considering a TFT then get one that has 16ms (low response the better) response time. I have a 16ms and IMO its brilliant when playing games

ms = milliseconds - Lower response time significantly reduces the ghosting and jagged pixel effects that is common in old TFTs (ie 30ms+). Poor response times was one of the main reason TFTs had a bad reputation for gaming.

Got it. Thanks for that, I'll look out for the ms figure before I purchase.

Exclamation

Go for one of these

Hitachi CML174SXW
NEC 1760NX
ACER AL732

All have D-sub & dvi, the hitachi has all cables included others have usual D-Sub and power etc. All run games very nicely, but you need a machine able to drive them at decent 1024 x 768 or preferably 1280x960(1024) resolutions

The Hitachi can be had for about 315 +vat and P&P.

The Iiyama is good but doesnt have DVI so discounted that. I've had all 3 of the monitors I listed but have kept the Hitachi.

I do ,and can't fault any of it. Make sure you run them in their native resolution ( this one is 1280x1024 ) for best results.

The three mentioned above are *generally* regarded as the best in the market at the moment.

OK Hitachi it is. Just have to find the best price, but so far all seem very similar - £1 or two difference. Thanks very much for the help fellas, it's been a big big help.

I use an Eizo FlexScan L771 - it's huge, runs at 1600x1200 and copes with games just fine

I got my Hitachi from www.3dsolutions.co.uk who price matched www.overclockers.co.uk. I know of people who have had bad experience with overclockers so went with 3dsolutions as they were very helpful.

J1nxy mate PHEW!
I was just about to order from overclockers.com but thought I'd check for any further posts. Thanks for that info. BTW What kind of issues have you heard about them?

Having looked at the recommendations in this thread so far the Hitachi seems to be flavour of the month, will it be suitable for displaying driving games on (I'm concerned about ghosting and blurring)?

Given the cost difference between the Acer AL712, which doesnt come with a DVI cable (add £20) I'd say that the Hitachi is a better buy given that it is a 16ms screen as well. The faster the refresh the nicer games will look.......
