I've been sent a program by email and it's in zipped (compressed?) form, does anyone know how i can open it? do i need to install an unzipping program?
please help this complete idiot

Yep, you'll need WinZip, assuming you're using Windows. Google will help you find it. Install and just double-click on your zipfile.
