Computer question (slow laptop)
#1
My laptop is really really slow, booting up, connecting/disconnecting to the net, even right clicking on a desktop icon normally results in a 10 second wait before the drop down menu appears. I have dried deleting temp internet files etc but no change...any ideas??

Defrag the hard disk, increase virtual memory file size ??
Also put your virtual memory file on a 2nd hard disk (if you have one). If not then if you have low memory then it will swap alot and thrash your hard disk.

Yeah first of all post this up in the computer forum
It sounds like there may be an awful lot in the startup programs group. Have you checked what is loading on startup? Do you have a lot of icons in the task bar tray?
It maybe a problem with the OS and need a rebuild.
Thats just a starter for you, I'm sure plenty of others will add more suggestions for you.
Edited to say that was moved bloody quickly, mods must be bored

rebuilt the OS if you can. else, clean up any temp files and uninstall software you dont need anymore.
goto start/run and type msconfig and check what's loaded at startup.
btw, check your laptop for virus and spyware.

Try searching for *.tmp , delete them all.
What OS is it ?
If you have Office 97 running, go into Control Panel,
go into findfast and delete all indexes.
How much disk space do you have left ??
Uninstall all those utilities, and extra stuff that sits in your system tray. (leaving laptop utilites such as sound etc)
Do you logon to your laptop, if so how big is your profile ?
move/delete all stuff from my documents.
Do you keep docs or program files on your desktop ? remove them.
Check your profile size.
If this fails, try creating a new profile, ie create a new ID.
If that works, delete old profile.
If none of these work rebuild OS
Cheers
