Unhappy

...after i've started and shut down my pc about 5-6 times over a period of a few days i'll start it up as normal, get the decktop up as normal and all shortcut icons up but suddenly i can't access any programs via start menu or desktop shortcuts(and NAV auto-protect is mysteriously disabled,) if i persist in trying to access any programs it'll freeze(lockup?), at this point i'll use system recovery to boot into xp system restore, then the process starts again ,(ok for a few days then i can't access any programs via start menu or desktop shortcuts again),ive scanned with NAV but it didn't find anything, also i cant open NAV recently but i can access the options for it which all seem in order.I tried a full system recovery but this only restarted the cycle of"ok for a few days then i can't access any programs via start menu or desktop shortcuts " i'm at a bit of a loss, any help/ideas gratefully received thanks in advance(soz' for longwindedness)

Exclamation

Sounds like w32.Klez, I had to remove this from my father in laws PC the other day, various removal tools are available from most of the top AV vendors, mcafee, sophos, norton etc (free downloads). The tool removes the virus, however you will need to reinstall your av software after it has been removed, plays silly buggers with the registry and disables AV tools that are installed on the host PC.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Si.
