when i try to get on some web pages i get a pop up box that says, your current security settings prevent u from running activex on this page so it may not load properly. how do i get round this?

Are you using the AOL browser, or Internet Explorer?
If the latter, what version are you using (and which OS)?
You could check your security settings (Tools > Internet Options > Security) - needs to be set to Medium or Lower for ActiveX controls to work. Don't go too low, as this allows controls which are not marked as "safe" to be run. (Make sure you have good, up-to-date AV software installed).
I had the same problem recently doing a fresh install of Win98 on an old machine, and this was preventing me connecting to Microsoft Update site. I found it was due to the version of IE being "too old" and had to find a later version on a CD, install that, then go to Microsoft site to continue.
