yes they are...& scanpst.exe works fine on xp.
a very useful one that has just recently come out from microsoft is PST2GB.exe
the limit for a pst is just under 2 gig & when you reach this limit it dies..literally. This newish exe lets you trim off in 5 meg chunks & then calls scanpst.exe to repair...works every time.
