Question

Just about to buy a DVD writer and was wondering where i can get all the copying software i need and also if new burners are about to hit the market soon that are worth waiting for?

I understand it currently that although i would be buying a 4x writer it is mostly limited to 2.4 due to discs not hacking it? In which case surely discs are being the limiting factor.....

Anyone recommend some good branded discs for DVD+R or DVD-R? Price?

Was going to buy the Sony DRU500A for about 250. Seems highly recommended, anyone confirm this? Anyone know where to get it cheaper?

I've got a DVD-R burner for my PC. Its only 1 speed but i use DVD X COPY to do all my backups and it works perfectly everytime. There has been only 1 dvd (windtalkers) that it wouldn't copy. I get all my blank DVD-R's from www.blankshop.com. You can get 25 blank DVD-R's for £11.99 (why pay £5.99 for 1 from HMV - rip off merchants!!). They're unbranded but I have never had one fail on me yet. And I have backed up loads of DVD's.

@P1

you not taken the plunge yet m8. get the sony m8. new firmware makes it even more x4 compatible. try to get discs with ritech dye in them. having said that i am using yellow tops with princo dye atm and have had no probs with them. i am currently using stomp record now max. superb piece of software. i used to use nero but unless they have fixed the bug in the latest release then it may not write 100% compatible discs. good luck finding a sony unit. you could try svp communications for blank media.

cheers
