bios does not support HDD cylinders over 4092 - how to tell?
#1
I have just bought a 60Gb HDD and I can not get my BIOS to see it no matter what combo of jumper settings I use on my 2.1Gb Master or the 60Gb Slave
Is it possible my Mother Board can't handle it? - I have no idea what the MoBo is but it is running a very old Cyrix 266Mhz chip
Cheers, Jon

sounds like a problem from years ago called logical block addressing where the Bios couldn't see over a certain number of cylinders, blocks and heads. At the time Win95 OSR1 couldn't see more than a couple of gig so it wasn't a problem until bigger drives came out.
When they did arrive in the market place bios updates were written and some manufacturers (like seagate) had a specific piece of software to overcome the issue.
Do a search on LBA or logical block addressing, otherwise it's a case of New PC Time.

All my RAM is SDRAM PC100 and I would like to avoid having to get new RAM as well as mobo, chip and case (need new psu as this one is only 200w )
