No I shan't : giggles like a girl:
OK..WELL...
Went to PC World and I wonder how they manage to maintain a profitable and hopefully expanding company. I asked a 'consultant' if they sold the computers without monitor/keyboard/mouse as I didn't need them. Instead of discussing various options he told me too knock 120quid of the price of any system package and that would be "about right"
I then asked about Game cards.
"We've got some over there"
Brilliant.
So had a look around and from what I could see all the systems even with the 120 knocked off still worked out about 160-200quid more expensive than I could buy online from http://www.aria.co.uk
I spoke to them on the phone and the fella their(Mike) could not have been more helpful. Explained clearly all the various options and made me feel that my custom was important to his business.
Guess whose getting my order!

Fact is, you're probably several steps up the know-how ladder from most of their vic^H^H^Hcustomers:
- you already have a monitor, mouse and keyboard, so this isn't your first PC. That means you already have a clue what a PC is, what all the bits do, and the reason why you want an upgrade.
- you also know that you can buy components like video cards online and save money.
Personally I hate buying any technical product from a High St store; there's far too much emphasis placed on package deals, advertising and extended warranties, and next to no real product knowledge.
(Digression): A couple of weeks ago I had to buy a mobile phone; I walked into one of the well-known chain stores and was immediately shown a couple of the 'current deals', with no attention paid whatsoever to my real needs. I ended up just picking up a copy of the tariff list, working it out for myself, then came back and demanded the product by name - turns out they actually DID have the best deal for me, but were so keen to sell me a 'special offer' they nearly missed it.
You should have seen the assistant's face when I turned down the extended warranty and insurance too - priceless

Extended warranties - waste of time.
went into (innsert name of t0sspot high street retailer here) to buy a george foreman grill for £35.
at the till...
t0sser - that'll be £35 please sir
me - here you go ( hands over cash )
t0sser - would you like the extended 3yr warranty with this sir?
me - no thanks.
t0sser - are you sure sir?, you are covered against breakage,theft,blah,blah,blah..
meyes, I'm posetive - thats why I said no.
t0sserBut sir, you get the.................
I had to leave the pr1ck to talk to himself, so off I walked. I actually made the mistake of getting one of these warranties a few years ago for a walkman worth about £80 - I only went to dixons cos they were doing interest free. When I asked the salesman how much it would be he said it would put about £5 on the deposit. What the **** forgot to tell me was that it put £5 on the deposit - and every other feckin payment thereafter. I didn't realise this untill I got home and read the paperwork, the total cost of the guarantee came to about £60 quid , what a performance I had getting them to cancel it - In the end it was a case of going back to the shop and making a stink at the counter until they cancelled it.
I go in faeces world now and again for bits and bats - it still amazes me how many people/mugs you see sat down with the reps being sold PC healthchecks, and other useless items

Ha! I love the warranty questions. Bought a mini food processer to mush baby food the other day from an electrical shop you all know the name of. The cost of the unit was £14.99. Took it to the till and was offered a 3 year warranty for £8.99. When I scoffed and said he had to be kidding the response was "how about for a fiver, then?"
Unbelievable!

I really hate it when you buy some `thing` from a shop, and they insist on taking your home phone / address details `for warranty purposes`.
I never give out this information, and it *always* causes a stink at the checkout.
one of my pet peeves.

To be honest I think they (the peeps on the till) hate offering them as well. They're just doing what they are told so I always refuse in the nicest way I can.

PC World.... hmmmmm wonderful place if you want to get ripped off....
Went looking to buy XP for my pc, cost of 165 quid went to little computer shop across the road and got XP (full home version) AND a Plextor cd rw (48x24x12 or something like that) for less than PC world charged for just XP

Well getting back to the topic, just placed an order with Aria. Dealt with a fantastic fella called Neil. I nearly placed the order with Eclipse Computers but Neil matched their prices and offered a much quicker delivery time.
Thanks again to DJ Dunk for suggesting them.
