I thought the Pioneer one was the only one to get!

Although I've heard good things about the Sony offering!

If I were to buy one, I personally would go for the Pioneer DVR-105.

Cheers

With the Pioneer I hear you'll have more trouble finding a place with stock rather than getting a good price!!

Try SVP Communications

Sorry to disagree but the Sony wins the bench marking and is more versatile doing +r and -r formats as well as being a cd writer. I would buy it, its the most widely recommended drive.

Unless you are COMPLETELY sure you only need dvd-r of course. Microsoft just went to dvd-r but nothing is a sure bet yet and for 50 quid more you get a better drive and cd copier.

Just my 2p...

A question.

Is is now possible for me to copy MY OWN DVDs with a simple plug n play machine.

Before anyone shoots me down, I in no way condone piracy, just like to have backups (as I have for all my CDs)

The first of the new "blue laser" DVD writers has become available from Sony.

Totally ridiculous price as it the first of its kind, at £2,000 but you can expect the prices to obviously drop to affordable levels from now on.

Blue laser drives can write up to 27GB per disc.
