#1
ok
friend is looking for a system, buying bits at a time
has a p4 mobo, but cpu cost is extreme,
what are the new 1.8/2/0 gig celerons like,
system will be used for surfing and playing dvd's and cm2001 etc
are they ok or do i say hold out and try and get a 1.8 p4
( he was wanting me to build the system this weekend)
cheers

P4 celerons are rubbish... performance will be on a par with a 1.6ghz P4, i.e. **** poor. Look for web reviews - even the intel fansite www.tomshardware.com slated them.
If you must stick with the p4 motherboard find the extra for a proper p4.
Otherwise, consider an alternative amd-based system... a athlon XP 2000+ costs about £40(!!!), and decent DDR motherboards at about £50. It may cost more than your celeron, but it will be much more performant.
