I have Veritas 8.6 on windows 2000 server with OFO and SQL options. My backups are successful but I am getting a few messages that I want to double check before I do a simulated crash and restore on the system.

What does this mean? is it a problem? We only have one admin account and Veritas is authorised to use this. I have also checked the OFO option and it is installed.

WMI Repository cannot be backed up because Windows Management Instrumentation service is not running.

A flat file backup of the appropriate files will be performed.

OFO: Warning: Job submitted with 'Use Open File Option if available' or 'Use Intelligent Image Option if available' enabled;
however, these components were not completely installed on target machine
or the Backup Exec service account does not have administrator rights.

The other error I am getting is:

__________________________________________________ _________

The item \Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\JET5.tmp in use - skipped.
The item \Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\JET9.tmp in use - skipped.
The item \Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\JETD9C6.tmp in use - skipped.
__________________________________________________ ________

Are these supposed to be backed up? The server is being used as a web server and I have to check it’s backing up properly before it goes live.

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

The first error message can happen if the agent service is not running on the specified machines.

I second the above... need to install the remote agent services on the target machine.

It's not a remote server, the tape drive is attached to the server and it's not networked. Do you have to install the remote agent.

Hi

It looks like the OFA is not installed properly OR the account that BE is logging in as isn't an administrator I assume that you are not using the admin account to carry out the backups?.

The other files which it is ont backing up look like the DHCP database which I would generally exclude from my backup.

Regards

Willie

Hi Willie

At first I created a new admin account with a different username as per Microsoft guidelines. I got this error so I uninstalled veritas and reinstalled it on the original admin account. This is where the log file comes from.

What i've installed:

Bent SQL Agent v8.6
Benw open file option v9.0
Bent server edition v8.6
Bent IDR v8.6

erm ofa V9.0???

Does V8.6 accept the serial number ok?

TBH given that you have IDR and the other agents in place what files do you expect to need OFA? It looks like you are getting a pretty good backup anyhow.

It looks like this is backing up okay but I don't see it in the log. It's called NT780.
I followed this on the Veritas site: http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/242688.htm

The Veritas software came from Dell when we bought the server. Version 9 ofa is on the same CD as version 8.6

Doh

I Installed OFO version 9 instead of 8.6 they are on the same disk. I am in the middle of seeing if this cures it.

Thanks for the help.

Cheers
