Question

I'm trying to install Solaris for Intel on a laptop, I can't get it to boot from the CD (is an original)

Any tips on how I can install this?, I've booted to a dos prompt but there's nothing on the CD to start the install off

I'm no expert on Solaris, I'm trying to get a walk about version of Nessus so any easy to install from boot CD flavours of Linux would also do.

Silly question, but have you set the laptop to boot from the Cd drive, in the BIOS? You don't want to be starting from a DOS prompt.

Cool

What version of x86 Solaris are you trying to run? I have never had any problems booting from the CD. The only problems I did have was that the graphics card and network card where to new for the solaris system, changed to old crappy ones and had no probs after that.

But as that other guy said is the CD ROM setup to boot B4 the hard disk?

With regards to LINUX have you tried Knoppix? this is a ram based fully functional version of LINUX.

Solaris for Intel version 8 & 9 should boot directly from CDROM if supported by your PC's bios.

If you still having troubles though resort to a boot floppy a Solaris 8 x86 Bottdisk can be downloaded from http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/retr...ction=fpatches

Edited to sat I agree with the comments above if you just want to take a look at Linux ina simple painfree way take a look a Knoppix.
