Ello! My bf has just bought a Dell Inspiron 4150 notebook and has been having trouble with a slow startup menu when it displays submenus. Has anyone had this problem before, and if so, is there a way of fixing it? Thanks!

now i remember, get a small proggy called tweak UI from here :
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p.../powertoys.asp

when installed, it appears in the control panel, open it and under the mouse tab there is a slide bar to adjust the speed that menus appear.

You can edit it manually as well. The menu draw speed is controlled by a registry key called menushowdelay. The default value is "400" i.e. delay for 400 milliseconds before drawing. Reset it to zero for as quick a response as you can get.

This 'hack' works on WinXP and Win2k - not tried it on others. Don't do it on Win.NET Server, it doesn't react well at all! ... not that it really matters, and it wouldn't be on a laptop anyway... </waffle>
