Another vote for Backup Exec. Be aware that if you choose BackupExec, SQL and Exchange require their own agents to run 'on line' backups. Each agent is about an extra £500. Really depends if you want to down Exchange and SQL services just to back up.
I've used BackupExec for 4 years backing up SQL, Exchange, Lotus Notes, on both NT4.0, W2K and Netware

WillieF,
Can I have a quote for BE 9.0 with the Oracle and SQL agent?
Also, do you external SCSI 40/70 DLT units, preferably HP Surestore
Cheers

depends on the size of your servers...
We use Backup Exec 8 at the moment, but really should change to something like netbackup.
Download eval... and have a play... arcserve was ok on Netware.. but nt... pah

I second Retrospect Multi Server.
I have it running on my Win 2000 Server, and it backs up my 3 other Win 2000 Servers, Mac Webserver, 5 PC clients and 20 Macs. No problems at all.

Don't laugh, but the standard W2K back program for Exchange 2000 isn't too bad at all. Dunno about SQL though.
Edit to say we use in a way a mixture of Arcserve 6.5/2000/Brightstor 9 over our ninety odd Exchange servers.

I would just use Windows backup and SQL backup to put a flat file onto disk, then Windows backup again to get that onto tape. ARCServe is the pits, especially the 'bricks level' for Exchange. Did you know that one of the fixes in SP4 was 'now able to backup and restore individual mailboxes'. WTF was every version up to that one supposed to do then?
BE isn't a lot better.
Turn on deleted item retention on your Exchange box(es) for 14 or 30 days and if a user doesn't know they've deleted something for that long; tough. As I said above, SQL has its own backup that is perfectly adequate for backing up a live DB, and Windows backup can do Exchange. Open files on file servers will be your only problem, but if you don't work in a 24 hour environment then you should be OK doing it overnight.

In Exchange 2000 you have deleted mailbox recovery. Which is rather nice
It could be the only good thing about E2k. Perhaps is MS had attempted to finish it before they released it things would be better...
