Network Associates Earns Highest Ranking in Anti-Virus Detection Tests For Third Consecutive Year
February 04, 2003 08:03:00 AM ET

McAfee Security Outperforms the Competition in Rigorous University of Hamburg Virus Test Center Testing

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- McAfee(R) Security, a division of Network Associates(R), Inc. NET, today proudly announced that for the third consecutive year the University of Hamburg Virus Test Center has awarded McAfee Security's anti-virus technology top honors in the detection of viruses and other malware. In a comparative review of anti-virus scanning technology, McAfee Security surpassed the competition in detection of viruses, worms and other malicious code, scoring higher than all other anti-virus vendors. Results of the Virus Test Center's independent anti-virus technology testing are available at: http://agn-www.informatik.uni-hamburg.de/vtc/ .

"It is no surprise that McAfee Security has consistently maintained its reputation for providing exceptional anti-virus technology that is needed to secure customers in today's hostile computer environment," said Professor Klaus Brunnstein of the University of Hamburg Virus Test Center. "Through our comprehensive testing procedures, McAfee VirusScan(R) demonstrated its outstanding ability to detect viruses on multiple operating systems including DOS, Windows 98, Windows 2000 and Linux."

The University of Hamburg Virus Test Center is well respected throughout the anti-virus industry for its comprehensive, bi-partisan testing procedures. The Test Center's thorough detection testing includes threats from 'zoo' collections and 'in the wild' virus lists, multiple platform detection, compressed format detection and product reliability by counting false alarms that occur when a product wrongly detects threats that do not exist.

"Achieving the highest possible ranking in The University of Hamburg Virus Test Center trials for the third year in a row is a testament to our continued dedication to provide customers worldwide with industry leading anti-virus solutions," said Ryan McGee, director of product marketing for McAfee Security. "McAfee Security provides the highest level of anti-virus protection available today to customers on all major operating platforms and will continue to provide the best security protection to all of our customers."

McAfee(R) Security is a product division of Network Associates, Inc. that protects businesses from security breaches, virus attacks and blended threats. McAfee Security provides comprehensive network protection through industry leading anti-virus, encryption, desktop firewall, intrusion detection, viral vulnerability assessment and online managed services. All McAfee Security products and services are backed by the world-leading anti-virus research organization, AVERT(TM) (Anti-Virus Emergency Response Team), the team responsible for providing cures for major outbreaks like LoveLetter, CodeRed and Nimda. Good move.

Version 3 of ePO and Version 7 of VirusScan both nearing the end of beta. Great new features in both.

Thinking of doing a Scooby meet at our offices so we can play with viruses, anyone interested?
