If planning for a home network between a desktop and laptop, which OS would be better suited; XP or Windows2000.
And do the Professional versions offer a lot more than the Standard editions to be worth the money ?

The Pro version offers very little of interest to home users, even those with networks. Not worth the additional money. With regards to 2k versus XP, I'd say - go with XP. The annoying "Teletubbies" features can be switched off, and it's actually very stable and usable. After that, it depends on what hardware your PCs are running. XP does have slightly higher CPU requirements and uses more RAM.

I would agree, XP is probably easier to set up for home users too.

If you go XP make sure you apply the service packs. Its a dog without them.

I use 2000 Pro, very happy with it, but agree its OTT for purely home use.
