Anyone recommend the best place online to get Windows XP at sensible money?

Or, of more interest (i.e. it's cheaper!), where to get a Windows 98 disk?

My machine has at last become so virus riddled that it's no longer usable, so time for a complete re-install on a spare hard drive. problem is, I lent my Windows 98 disk to a friend/plank who lost it a couple of years ago.

oh, and avoid McAfee virus products at all costs! Their on-line product fecked the machine over good and proper (it seemed to release a host of viruses onto the machine and crashed it entirely). McAfee customer service is atrocious - automated, not interested in learning about what happened and they refuse to give a refund. Nice.

cheers

Sorry to hear you had such problems Gordo, but to be honest it sounds like you'd gotten your machine into a right royal mess in the first place. If you like I'll help with a refund, mail me jclark@nai.com

yes, that means you can get a copy of the win 98 CD and run it legit.

borrow a disk from someone and reinstall it.

thanks - a much more helpful response than 'does not condone software piracy' - was that tongue in cheek or serious?

I obviously wasn't clear enough in my original post - I wasn't asking for free copies, I am happy to pay for it, just wanted to get it on-line rather than pay full retail.

Thanks for the replies - have now got a colleague hunting for his Windows 98 disk.

cheers

Buy an OEM copy from www.Scan.co.uk for about £100, you need to buy a bit of hardware at the same time to qualify, e.g. a £3 mouse

thats for PRO btw.........

Thanks,
