Pete - yes you can. The simplest way to do this is with a feature called ICS (Internet Connection Sharing), a built-in feature to Windows XP. Read about it here on the Microsoft website. There's a step-by-step guide on that page - fairly straight forward. ICS will enable the actual sharing of the broadband connection.
You'll also need to actually network the two PCs together. If you've not already done that - then you've a choice of two ways of going about it. These are (1) with cables, and a network hub or (2) with wireless connections. Wireless links are neater (no cables) but more expensive. Wired links are (or can be) faster and cheaper. Which would you go for?

ive just done this the cheap and tatty way by putting a network card in the other pc and then running a crossover cable to the other pc, you only have to connect the cable when you are going to use the internet and ive been taliking to people who sell the wireless stuff and they have told there is too many returns

With the internet conection sharing you have to have the main PC switched on to use the internet on the other one, I used a Belkin internet gateway router £50 to get around this.
