DHCP renew/release
#1
I know its possibly a very odd request but has anyone managed to find a tool/script around the limitation that MS have put on XP/2K/NT that only 'local administrators' can perform a "IPCONFIG /release or /renew"
I have a genuine reason for needing to do this. Have found a tool on the net called IPrefresh but the users still need to be at least 'Power Users'
All this will be called in a script too.
Help !

Hi
Nothing to do with getting the users to see the detials as in XP its quite easy.
No, I need to actually run the 'ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew' as devices are moving VLAN's after machine authentication. Its a bit too much to go into here but thats the requriment....

Yeah - just read it properly - I'll ask the bloke that wrote the script I have, he'll know.
Is it not locked down in the system policy?

Nope - there does not seem to be any policy settings for this. There is a MS q doc that says by design only 'Administrators' can do the commands.
RCMD - thats ok for remote stuff, but as the machine is authenticated the VLAN changes thus the machine needs to get a new IP address. All this is local.
ANy more help ?
