port alocation in norton is run via the program contol.
Rules can be set from there as to what traffic, inbound and outbound is allowed for each program. Norton senses when a port is being acceses, and this is looped back to the program sending or recieving. The packet headers are then examined by the set rules and granted access or dropped accordingly
This is relativly easy to set up. Don't trust the auto setup though.
btw, do you mean 2002 or 2003?
as far as I remember (i'm not a windows user) 2002 utilised seperate programs like firewall, int det, AV etc......2003 was internet security because it combined everything.
