Thinking of signing up but theres one thing I dont understand.

Do I need a filter on every phone socket in my house even though I'm only going to use one socket for my pc?

I'm having broadband on my pc upstairs, but my parents still want to use there dial-up downstairs, I'll be with Pipex. will they still be able to use their pc with a 56k downstairs.

Cheers

Cool

your fone line will be free for voice or data. but if your parents just wanna dial up to use the internet, why not piggy back into your adsl line? with adsl, it is ideal for sharing the connection.

With a filter downastairs, you should just be able to plug the downstairs PC into the filter - you'll need a 2nd ASl modem though.

Or put both on a network system.

If they just connect to the phone line downstairs with an ADSL modem, do they need to get an account with an ISP or can they use my ISP for free? I know this can be done if I create a network using routers but I wondered if it will work using the phone socket downstairs.

Hello

You don't need a filter on every socket if you use a Master Socket (look here: http://www.thecaretaker.org.uk/microfilters.htm).

It's much cheaper for your parents to just use your ISP and modem. A few pounds for a hub, and 30 minutes tacking a cable upstairs should do the trick....

Steve.

Why not install a n/w card in your PC and your parents, run a crossover cable between the two, setup up internet connection sharing on yours, and hey presto your parents get ADSL for free!
