Can any body reccomend a free app that will alert you to an incoming phone call while you are connected to the net via a modem, and then give you the option to stay on or disconnect?
I am living with the inlaws at the moment - there are rhumors afoot that I spend too much time on the net, tying up the phone line.
cheers,
mike.

i think your modem has to adopt the new v44 standard to be able to put your internet connection on hold. before i had my BB i had a little conexant win modem (£10 from dabs). i was v44 upgradeable and with the drivers disk came a little proggy that allowed you to do this. you could try the conexant site for drivers but at the end of the day i spose it is really down to individual modems. anyways hope this helps.

I remember receiving an email from BT not so long ago and they mentioned a way of answering your phone via your PC using a mic and the speakers. It cost something like £1 per month IIRC. Worth having a word with BT,see what they have to say!!
Good luck

Just found something on the BT website but it ain't a £1 a month though (More like £20)
http://www.bt.com/ITSP/index.jsp
This is what they say:
BT PC 2 UK lets you talk from your PC while you surf - at the same time and on the same line. You can call any fixed line telephone in the UK direct from your PC, without the need to log-off. Simply click and call!
BT PC 2 UK offers you:
simultaneous internet and phone usage
an easy-to-use ‘dial’ facility from your keyboard.
For BT PC 2 UK all you need is:
a computer
an Internet connection
any BT Together account
Microsoft Messenger software
a sound card
one of the following:
a microphone and speakers
a headset
a USB compatible handset
Choose BT as your voice service provider from MSN Messenger and sign up for BT PC 2 UK.
BT PC 2 UK costs just £20 a month, which is conveniently added to your BT telephone bill.

Adam (again)
Not everyone can get ADSL and many never will. You can get quite a lot of Pay-as-you-go Internet access for the £20/month ADSL costs.
Also many corporates don't have an Internet/VPN based remotes access service so people still need to use their phone.
There is a whole country outside London which has different needs....
