in a bored 5 minutes, I started writing this...

Does anyone feel passionate enough for me to make this into a proper app?

If your boss receives Websense reports, you're buggered... unless you employ my IIS log file hacker, he he.

I spoke to SDB about doing the same, a couple of years ago. He was not a fan of the idea, as it obviously bites into his advertising revenue.
I dropped the thought of publishing the stuff - drop him a mail before you get too far down the track and discuss your specific implementation.

I would imagine SDB is not a fan at all, due to the amount of traffic it'll generate too if a lot of people use it...

of course it would be fully functional - I only wanted to see if I could cut up SDB's code methodically. The app would not read ahead and would only use as much bandwidth as a browser.

Maybe SDB would be happy if I made sure that there was space at the bottom for a full size animated gif banner, ie; display what advertising was on the page being looked at.

SDB, any comments?

Fosters, if it had a logo, then it would define the point of being stealth!

As the banner is in diff areas, like ecutek/banner.gif etc, perhaps yours could see where the gif is from, and say this sponsors by ecutek, and have the link it points to.. just a thought.

Drop him a mail - it wasn't just the issue of advertising. There are other issues.

I'll finish it off for me, but not hand it out - it's not worth rocking the boat and this is Simon's business.

Fosters.

Haha. Work in computers do we, Rik?

Technical questions aside, the term "biting the hand that feeds" means nothing to you?

The reason you'd use this app, is because you can't be seen to use scoobynet in work...

so without the app, you wouldnt be looking anyway , and therefor would not see the adverts anyway.

And is that what scoobynet's about???.. making money.. I don't think so, it's for like minded people to gain knowledge etc...

So.. i can't see a problem!, and surely, when you're at home or anywhere else, you would simply use a web browser.

So, you are probably even less likely to be thanked for installing a freeware product of indeterminate origin (as far as your boss would see it) on the corporate network, for the purpose of circumventing the computer use policy.

"And is that what scoobynet's about???.. making money.. I don't think so, it's for like minded people to gain knowledge etc..."
I think Simon would agree that Scoobynet is for people to gain knowledge, however I guess he wouldn't thank you for curtailing the only revenue stream he has to ameliorate the costs.

Cool

You should do what I currently do & inform your employers that SN is part of your life/work & that it is of benefit to them that I am able to browse SN without fear of castigation or retribution

I will be having it enabled in any future contract I take out too

OK it helps that I'm i/c of computer use etc etc

This app is obviously far inferior to IE/NS (no offence Forster ) and will only be used as a last resort when a full blown browser isn't an option.

Therefore the revenue wouldn't have been generated at these times anyway.

Exactly .. it's not like it is being used to "block" the ads!, surely everyone uses a browser whenever possible.

I get caught all the time on scoobynet, and if a report was run by the web admin it would be pretty bad, it's just convenient that he happens to be Rik1471 and has posted just above me

Plus, we can't be monitored, we need to be able to check all the dodgy sites people go on
