First GeForce FX Benchmarks...
#3
As you say, interesting reading. However note how it runs top of the line games such as UT2003 at over 100fps. I think the speed in which games stop being 'jerky' is around the 40-50fps mark. Can anyone really tell the difference between 100 and 140fps?
Only one game will over get near to the capability of these cards, and that's doom 3. It will be over a year before these cards get pushed to anywhere near the limits. For most games even a Geforce 3 is more than enough, and that's 2 years old.
Nvidia/ATI etc want us to believe that by installing their latest and greatest card then the games we play will suddenly and magically be transformed into this state of the art, cinematic experience. The reality is, is that if you are running a GF3 or above they won't.
It's the length of time and expense of developing the game that is the bottleneck, not the graphics card you run.
This year I was considering upgrading from a GF3 to something like the FX, but on reflection I probably won't. There's no point, unless I want to go in for the ego trip of mines faster than yours, which I don't!

Sorry, I would like to agree, but can't. I have had most cards through the years(V1,2,3, Riva 128, TNT,TNT2 etc....... even some ATI shat ), as most of you guys know and I can say that from revision to revision I noticed the difference.
When I went from the Geforce 2 GTS to the GF3, I noticed the difference and decided that 32-bit gaming smoothly really was possible. Didn't notice that much of a change between the 3 and the Ti500 tbh, but immediatly noticed the difference when playing when I changed to the GF4 Ti4600. Way smoother all around. Not using 3dmark as the holy grail at all, but this was the first card that I saw a machine handle the multiple light dragon roundabout scene with virtually 0 frame rate loss or judder. Those who use this prog will know exactly what I mean
You can tell the difference between a lot of cards when put side by side, imo of course.
Until next week , I am currently running a p4 2.2@2.9, 1 gig corsair ram, Leadtek GF4 Ti 4600 and play mostly BF1942 and UT2003 on it. Behind me I have a P4 2.53, 512mb corsair, Gainward Ti4200 128mb and running the 2 side by side you can easily see the difference. Not a fair test at all I grant you, but not that different speed-wise, but the visual differences are obvious to see.
I am putting myself down for a Geforce FX of course , but then again, this is what I love and I like to stay ahead.
Looking forward to seeing what that card does coupled with my half built new beast
Cheers,
Nick

Si..... We've already had this discussion. I run 2.9 24/7 because I am happy with it and I prefer not to run on the limit if I don't have to. I ain't one of these freaks who enjoys melting his equipment down every few months.

You may well, as I am not getting one as soon as they get released. I want more concrete info on the suspected R350 core that apparently ATI are rustling up. I hate to admit it, but the ATI's may finally be producing a solid run of better silicon than Nvidia.
3dfx, come back, all is forgiven....
What 'Rig' are you running nowadays then? Trust me, I still 0Wn j00 in those stakes and always will, so
Also, you, that girly boy Fitter and holt should stop acting like little women and play 1942. Would be nice to completely 0Wn j00 guys for a change
Cheers,
Nick

LOL @ all of this. The thought of you putting a watercooling setup together makes me cringe
The thought of a gorilla with a mallet springs to mind
Challenge me, feel free, at least you have come a fair old way since the first day you got my messenger address...

Remember what I said. Patience is key with that puppy. Sub zero temps, condensation and water are not motherboards freind. You have been warned. Mine is perfect, but I took my time building her.

Mark, I changed systems ages ago!
http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...mName=Computer
The watercooling rig is my girlfreinds now. Just to wind you up, all that she uses it for is web browsing and email!
Actually pushing just over 15.5k 3dmarks now and bf is smooth to play, so happy
The new rig is looking set for 20-23k marks at the moment I guesstimate, so will be cranking up the res and aa, af etc
Not into racing games tbh. Have you played 1942 much or just the pants demo?
Cheers,
Nick

Er, dozy, if you had researched those motherboards properly, then you would know full well that you won't be driving the RAM anywhere near DDR400 speeds.
1 board, which was a pre release Gigabyte tested back in November, had a hidden setting for async ram, but it did nothing and has been removed a long time ago. Go do some more research m8
