Is there any software that can play a VCD movie on a Playstation2 ?
I know there's apps to convert the VCD mpeg file into mpeg2 file and burn that, but it looks a little too involved for my liking.

Nothing a bit of hacking can't put right - it has a cpu doesn't it!? Just a matter of time before someone puts something together - just look at DjDunk's link!

Incidentally I found this, which may be of interest to some PS2 owners who want to play DiVX CDR's on their chipped PS2s...

i was told they will play them with some sort of adaptor ?
know someone whose just started selling vcd's down our way and asked them about the P2S.
they said its possible with some sort of adaptor which they were looking to get hold of ?

There is a piece of kit that will allow you to play avi's and stuff on your PS2. My mate has one over in Boston.
The Playstation1 had an adapter that allowed it to play VCD movies - you could usually pick one up at the local computer fair.
I was simply hoping there was a piece of software that had been written to allow the Playstation2 to play VCD movies, opposed to a piece of hardware.

there is no cd or other device available yet that can make the ps2 play vcds,the internal hardware of the ps2 cannot play mpeg format,someone is working on it but it may be another internal device(ie chip)!.there is only the media player,but that doesnt support vcd and from what i heard its a load of rubbish anyway.easier getting a dvd player which supports vcd,svcd,dvdr for about £70.
the vcd adaptor on psx was also a load of rubbish,very bad quality.
