4 port usb hub question

i have bought a 4 port usb hub and the only thing that works connected to it is my broadband modem
everything else ( all imaging devices ) i get the message telling me that there is not enough power to support the device.
it appears to have a socket for a power supply but the instructions are so vague.
any help appreciated

If you got no power adapter with it, then it will draw power from the host computer. Just find yourself a power adapter with the correct voltage, polarity and connector on.
