Could just be me being stupid but please bear with me
I've been trying to get my Xbox to play the dolby digital soundtracks through my DVD and I doesnt seem to be working properly.
I bought the advanced Scart lead for the XBOX and an optical cable which is plugged into the back of my dvd players optical-in.
So that bit is correct, I used the same setup for my PS2 and vice city so I know I works that way.
Tried the Xbox dashboard and changed the soundsettings to dolby surround, but there is no selection for Dolby Digital ?
I'm very confused, help

You're pluggin the optical lead into your DVD player, it has to be into a dedicated amp.
Does the DVD has a built in 5.1 amp?
Have you some into the xbox dashboard and set it to digital output?

Xbox Sound Questions
How do I get Dolby Digital output from my Xbox?
In order to get Dolby Digital output from both games & DVD movies, you need to first purchase either the Advanced or High Definition AV pack. These two packs have an optical connector that is required for digital output.
I bought the Advanced or High Definition AV pack, but I still don't get Dolby Digital output.
Boot the Xbox without a game in it to launch the Xbox Dashboard. Once you're in the Dash, select Settings, then Audio. You should see options for both Dolby Digital & DTS. Select whichever of these encoded formats your receiver supports & choose 'yes'.
I bought the AV pack & went into the Dash, but I only see mono/stereo/surround. Where are DD & DTS?
There are issues with some 3rd-party AV packs that prevent the Xbox from recognizing them properly. If you have an optical-out on your AV pack, but don't see the DD or DTS options in the Dash, exchange your AV pack for a Microsoft Advanced or High Definition AV pack.
I have the right AV pack & Dolby Digital is enabled, but I get no sound or broken sound. If I disable Dolby Digital or use the RCA audio outputs instead of the optical, everything sounds OK.
There may be a manufacturing defect with some Xbox audio chips. Microsoft is in the process of investigating this. If you are having the above problem, call Xbox technical support at 1-800-4MY-XBOX.

I have a similar setup to pinkeye, Xbox, advanced SCART cable and a fibre optic, going straight to Denon surround amp. I have enabled the Dolby Digital and DTS options on the Xbox dashboard.
You DVD has a digital input then ? I hav enot seen that before, they are usually digital out.

Dunno, I just have the bog standard advanced scart connector, don't have a HDTV.
And the box can do a digial signal, you have to have the right lead, and optical lead, and a compatible Amp to put the signal through.
Thankfully my amp does DTS, which is a good thing
