Importing Emails/Contacts from Outlook Express into Outlook 2000
#1
Hi all
I've just bought a new Dell PC for the office to replace the old one which I'm going to use at home. However I have some emails and contacts on it that I would like to transfer onto the new PC.
My old PC has the emails/contacts on Outlook Express and the new PC has Outlook 2000. Can anyone tell me an easy way to do this?
Cheers

Exporting to a .csv file from OE and then import to Outlook2k, i find that i have a fair amount of problems exporting to a .pst file between the two. also check out www.slipstick.com for help.

Hi Gavin, this can get very messy.
1. On the pc with outlook express, export your contacts into csv format.ie click on file\export\address book. Select "text file, (comma separated values) " from the options. Then click on export.
Click on the browse button, select a network area where to save it.
ie your home drive. give it a name and then save.
On the pc with outlook express,
Create a folder on your Home drive, call it what you like as long as you remember it.
go into OE, and go into,tools\options\maintenance , & click on the store folder button. This will give you the location of all of your folders for OE.Using windows explorer, navigate to this area.
When you have located it you will see several files with an extension of dbx ie inbox.dbx. Close down OE, copy all these dbx file to the folder you created.
2. On the new pc, open OE (NOT OUTLOOK ITSELF), if you cannot see it, click on the start button, click on run. type in msimn, then ok. This should start OE, and go into,tools\options\maintenance , & click on the store folder button. Then click on "change", this prompts you to go to the folder on the network you just created.
Answer yes, to all questions , shut down OE & restart it.On restart
you should see all the messages in correct folders.
3. Now import you contacts in outlook 2000.
within outlook 2000, go to file\import & export, and select
"import from schedule+ or another program",click on next.
Select "comma separated values(dos). browse to the location you saved the csv file to and click ok.select destination folder of "contacts", click next then finish.
4. Back to Outlook Express, click on file\export\messages
you will be prompted that this will export from OE to outlook.
Click on ok, select any particular folders you want to export, and
again click ok.
Job done ..... Hopefully
