http://www.powerinnumbers.com.au

Or you could try Dabs if you want to buy in the UK, but the Ridata brand cards from Australia are much faster and seem to have very good compatibility.

Andy.

Remember not all CF cards are the same...compatibility, reliability, speed (eg 20x, 25x etc)

I bought a PQI 256Mb CF card that just didn't work propely in my camera and had to send it back to ebuyer, which was a right pain

http://www.powerinnumbers.com.au for me...

Just ordered a Ridata 256Mb and a Transcend 256Mb for £123 all in, including DHL tracked delivery - they're currently UK-bound on the DHL plane

Michael - we shall see I'll report back.

Andy - I have a PQI 128Mb and it works fine, so I thought the 256Mb would be OK too. But it wasn't...

Martin
PS. Just got an immaculate Canon 17-35 F2.8L on eBay - wide angle pics, here we come

Matt mate - I think you need to look around a bit more. Even Amazon.co.uk offer 256mb CF cards for £59.99 with free delivery. There are loads of other places that sell them at this price or cheaper and are UK based. They are guaranteed for 2 years minimum so no problem if they break etc.

Does the £123 all in include import tax @ 10% and VAT @ 17.5% if not how do you avoid paying these costs.

Martin: I'm surprised that you've had trouble with a PQI card - you have a D30, don't you? Mine (128MB) works fine, if a little slowly.

I now use a couple of Ridata 256MB cards and they're great.

Talking

Well, they've arrived - took nearly 96 hours from placement of order on web to arrive at my house from Australia!!

Unfortunately, powerinumbers made an error and wrote on the airbill that the package contained documents, so there was no duty (don't *think* that applies anyway) or VAT to pay

..got a freebie CF to PCMCIA converter with the Transcend CF card as well

Looks like £89.30 inc VAT to me...

Now what'll it be...one 'ordinary' CF card for £89.30 + £4.70 P&P, or two 25x CF cards from Oz for £123 all in

Well, I s'pose if you only want one....

How about...

256Mb Compact flash - £65.80 (inc VAT) (10x Speed)
128Mb Compact flash - £34.08 (inc VAT) (10x Speed)

It's a local place that I get all my components from.

Martin: I just bought an EOS 33 to use with the Sigma 15-30. Really wide angle shots, here we come!

Have you seen this month's True Grip BTW? The photo across the centre double-page spread was taken by me hanging out of the window of the scoob with the D30 and 15-30 lens while Mrs C drives part of the TT circuit @ 100mph+. Fun

Andy

OK, OK - you win

The guy I picked my 17-35 from let me put it on his EOS 1V - yep, even 17mm is pretty wide on a 1:1 sensor. Was thinking of getting an EOS 5/50/500/Elan whatever, whack in some Velvia and take some really wide landscapes at good old emulsion hi-res! Maybe after Xmas...

Don't get True Grip - not in SIDC - but I'm sure you're gonna win the Arty Shot with your w/a submission anyway

... in fact don't even have an Impreza now. Sold the P1 it to a (grinning) new owner yesterday. Sniff But get a Clio Cup tomorrow

Thanks - and best of luck with your Lotus pic too, very nice. (Just how long is it going to take Simon to finish judging? I can't stand the suspense!)

I really must learn a bit about film - is it possible to make prints from Velvia, or would I be stuck having to buy a slide projector (from a museum, perhaps?!)

Sorry about the loss of your P1 - that's always sad Are you going to buy a 1D(s) with the proceeds?

A.

Getting a bit OT here - but what the heck!

I'm sure you can get prints from slides, but I'd get a 3000-4000 dpi slide scanner off ebay and get them back into the digital world

Love to spend some of the profit on a 1D, but the current Mrs MartinM won't sanction that She says if I start making money out of my pics then there's a chance...

I think the 1D is 'old-hat' now with the CCD sensor. Looks like Canon may have abandoned it in favour of CMOS. I'll wait until PMA in Feb 03 and see if there's something like a 6MP/6fps/1D focus system CMOS being announced....that will be harder to resist
