Question

Flat-bed scanners are now available for barely fifty quid. Colour inkjet printers are also ridiculously cheap. A number of shops round here are offering different bundles, with further savings. As I need one of each, does anyone have any recommendations of what or what not to get for £200-300?

My PC is new with XP Home and loadsa memory, I'll probably get a digital camera soon but more for holiday snaps than artwork - I suppose photo printing would be nice. Scanner would almost certainly be used for not much more than scanning in current photos, and perhaps some OCR of documents. I won't use printer for b/w docs, I have an old laserjet for that.

All I can remember is that people complain that HP software is a pain. Did I see Epson getting a good write-up recently?

Thanks in advance

BJH

Just one piece of advice
Dont buy a printer just because its cheap. Cheap printers usually means expensive cartridges.

Tesco have a WIGIG (when it's gone it's gone) on at the moment on HP Scanner/printer/fax all in one machines.
£149.95.
If you know anyone that works for Tesco, they'll get it for £135.

Seems a bargain.

Ive got an epson stylus scan 2000. Good printer and scanner, carts are about £5 colour, £ 4 black ( compatables).

The only complaint I have is that I can't scan anything other than one sheet at a time as the scanner is a "roll through" type.

This looks o.k. flatbed scanner / printer

cartriges ( scroll to bottom):

Just my opinion, but I would always get epson for the fact they seem to have the cheapest compatable cartriges. We have had all epsons in our office for the last 5 yrs and had no problems.

I can't comment on HP software, but the stuff that came with mine is easy to use, It uses something called "twain" which works straight into imaging for the scanning.

I am sure a bit of shopping round will find some cheaper still.

hope this helps,

mike.

I have an HP V40 combined Scanner / inkjet printer. Cost £152 from Costco.

It has the advantage that it has a sheet feeder for the scanner so its good for scanning in multiple sheets. Print Quality is good.

Only disadvantage is that it is not a flat bed scanner.
