A friend of mine has a Toshiba Satellite 3000 X4, I believe he may have overheated it. Every now and again it just shutsdown, no warning, almost as though the battery was disconnected. Possible processor fault?

I had a similar problem with a tosh a while back. Turned out to be a motherboard fault.
