Second hand monitor..good idea or not?
#1
I'm looking at buying a new PC in the New Year and was considering saving a few quid by buying a s/h monitor. What is the average lifespan of a monitor and how much should I be looking to spend on a decent quality 17"?

Difficult to say how much to spend really, a pretty standard 17" monitor new can be picked up for £130 or so. I'd pay in the region of £60 to £70 for a good make second hand, less for a cheaper brand. Reliability wise, I've had a cheap brand 17" for two years and not had any troubles at all. I'd only sell it to move to a 21", so that must tell you something about the quality of even the cheaper models. (TVM As6s).
IF you are buying from a shop, then they normally have some sort of warrenty, even if its only 3 months. If buying privately, ask why its being sold.
