I've just come across a new product which maybe of interest to people.

It from a company called Amplify.net (www.amplifynet.com and it allows you to either load balance or failover up to 3 WAN links. These WAN links can be ADSL, SDSL, E1 lease line or ISDN/PSTN. This means that you could load balance across 3 ADSL circuits (6Mb down, 768Kb up).

The clever bit is the use of a DNS server on the box which will respond with different IP addresses depending on the circuit that the orginating request was made on. This means you can use it for inbound as well as outbound.

It comes in a number of flavours including Statefull inspection firewall and VPN. You can have these units in a HA pair which multiple WAN links to provide truely resilent VPN concentrators/Web sites/Mail gateways etc.

Well cool

Jeff

Surely all you need is n+1 connections, 3 machines (or one with 3 NICS, or whatever configuration) as proxies and DNS round robin to get the same thing

So who can spot the problem with Steve's idea.....think round-robin and HA and proxies.....!
