Hi all,

Im having NTL broadband installed today. Its the type that has an ethernet cable coming out the set top box and has a USB converter that plugs into the back of your pc.

Thing is, I have 2 pcs in the house and want to have both plugged in. Anyone done it? Just wondering if it was as simple as a hub and a network card type arrangement or not? or whether Id have to have the main pc set up to share internet connection???

cheers

andy

Cool

A hub will not work. You could use a broadband router or setup internet connection sharing through the connected pc.

done it too, Internet Connection Sharing via Windows XP.

Bit of a nightmare setting it up with Zonealarm but got there in the end!

Can also drop me a mail if you get stuck

Thumbs up

go the broadband router option if you don't want to have one PC always on, is a safer bet anyway as it'll provide some kind of NAT firewall at least...

total doddle matey, use a hub, depends on the type and the OS
Windows XP will do 99% of the work for you, 2000,98, and god forbid 95!! will need a little piece of freeware call "NETSHARE" and then it will do it all for you.

"Dont tell NTL that you are using muliple Pcs on the connection"
they will concider this a Buisness usage and charge you accordingly.

also remeber that connecting your pcs via a hub or a jump link cable will not indicat to NTL that you are spliting the connection...but if you register more than one pc on your line ( you can register up to 5 ), they will split the connection to each pc no more 512kbs download speeds!!!!!! divide it by the number your running......not good...but dont tell'em and its all good....and its legit.

"INFOMATION"
NTL cannot give you 128Kbs connection as the minimum they need to supply your tv interactive options is 256Kbs...do a speed test, you will see that the 128k boys are getting infact 256k....nice
also the 512kbs boys are infact getting closer to 700kbs....even better...and at no extra charge!!!!!!

Ok so are you saying that I can plug both pcs into a hub, plug the cable that comes out the set top box into the hub(uplink?) and then hey presto???

Currently I tried to connect the 2 pcs together with a crossover, that seemed to work ok, but then I started getting problems browsing with the PC that is plugged into NTL. Ive stopped now!
