Hi,
I have the above laptop, and when I go to turn it on from cold (doesnt seem to happen if its already been on, just when its been off for a good few hours) all that happens is the fan comes on and goes to full speed, the hard drive light does not come on and the screen does not power up. Usualy after about 3-4 tries at turning it on and off it will start up normaly.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance, Rob.

A possibility - it could be the hard disk. If a hard disk is worn it can get stuck when it is stopped. This used to be very common on IBM Ps2 and they would not work from first thing in the morning. Solution was to turn them on, leave them for a while to warm up, then reboot. Alternately, lift the box a little and drop it on the desk. This would free it off and it would boot.
How old is the laptop ?

Hi Ken.
Only just realised I got a reply.
The laptop is less than 18 months old, I will give this a try and see how I go. Thanks for your help.

check out acpi power settings, if it's win2k,
dodgy switch (simple but probably not the problem)
dodgy battery ? disconnect the battery & just use main power see if you still have problems.
cmos battery ? (if this is dodgy then date & time will change, prob) - however don't think it will be this to be honest...
