2 or 3 RIMM slots should suffice. 512MB or 768MB will be more than enough unless you're editing a full size TIFF of the Mona Lisa.

Oh, and whilst AGP 8x might be useful when games start using even bigger textures, the performance of the 9700 Pro or Ti 4600 in a 4x slot would keep me happy for a long time.
I'd look for ATA RAID onboard instead.

So what if they do hold the i850E - how does that affect GB?
Is there another revsion of the 850E due then? I can order an Asus P4T-533R with bundled PC4200 RAMBUS today...

Dude, did you not see what I sadi about the geforce 5?
Also, the final specs are not absolutly finished yet, so what litle sites that have the info on them are not 100% concrete by any means yet.
Trust me, you have no idea what I will have before Chrimbo. Let's put it this way, all of my current kit is already sold Also add to that the fact that you don't have freezer cooling and you don't have a chance I only do this because it is fun for me and I can just about afford it. You, as Student Grant should really be looking at your priorities mate
Cheers,
Nick

Hello???
What on earth are you talking about?
I never, ever said that RDRAM was crap by any means and I said that it was currently faster, not by huge amouts, but I did categorically state that it's days were numbered as the no1 choice for p4's
Peltier cooling is home of the hardcore. This used to be the preffered choice of nutters for cooling back in the day, as it yielded good results without completely stupid setups.
Nowadays it is different, as CPU's crank out way, way more heat then the old fellas (bar the old cyrix 166's etc, damn they got hot!!!!)
Pelts have to be of a way higher power rating now to be of any real use. We are talking 220watts+, not to mention the severe ampage that they can pull. Now, realisticallty, we are talking dual power supplies and possibly professional grade testing psu's etc solely for running the pelt. Then there is the more specialist cooling needed to remove the immense amount of heat that is being cranked out from a 220watt pelt. You simply do not mess with this stuff unless you are prepared to invest the time, money and attention to detail into it.
Cheers,
Nick

Agreed AGP8x isn't even vaguely needed at the mo, just like AGP4x wasn't when it was released. The performance gains from this are normally fairly minimal, which is surprising, but true sadly.

Or you could wait for a Granite Bay board (do I mention that too often? )
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=5797
"The big one to watch, however, is the Asus P4G8X. It packs 5 PCI slots, and the AGP 8x slot, as well as optional Serial ATA RAID and optional Gigabit Ethernet controllers. Hi-Speed USB 2.0 at 480 Mb/s will also be featured to take advantage of all the new devices coming out this Christmas."
Everything you need
