Here's one I've pondering for a while....
W2000 Server (running AD but not DNS)
Exchange 2000
Pair of 9GB HDs in a RAID 1 mirror. Hardware RAID controller, hot swap drives (NetServer LH6000).
Sub 100MB disk space left. In fact, have run out of space once already which upsets Exchange.
Have permission to be get a pair of 18GBs but they boss would like to pull the 9GBs to re-use elsewhere.
Thoughts on how to achieve a swap to the 18s?
Personally, I'd say stuff it and put the 18s in as a new mirror and just move the Exchange stores over, keeping the 9s as the OS boot.

I wonder...
Pull one of the 9s in the mirror.
Replace with an 18GB. Let the mirror rebuild.
Pull the other 9, replace with an 18.
Rebuild mirror again.
Use Partition Magic to extended partitions.
Say hello to lots of data corruption!

ChrisB - if you stick 18's in, the raid controller (hardware or software?), will only recognise 9gig, so you will waste 9 gig then...IIRC.

assuming its hardware mirror... (cant be bothered to re-read)what I would do.. is.. a backup (cough boll0cks yeah right..)
Pull 1 disk out of the mirror incase it goes **** up..
Ghost the drive to an image...
Install new drives... re-establish mirror on these..
Restore image telling ghost to resize partition (could be a problem with dynamic disks?)

I would avoid doing it the RAID controller way, if that'll work at all, just had one RAID5 array lose a 9GB disk and refused a 36GB disk as a replacement (even though I only wanted it to sue 9GB of it) D'oh!

that smart hardware raid is great....F2 at reboot does the trick, slows the server down obviously.
I have lost touch a bit this year with imaging & the like on win2k.
David, you tried that erd 2002 disk I gave you yet....that really is the business.

It is H/W RAID. HP NetRAID - built into the LH6000 as standard.
{Edit to say standard basic drive under W2000, not dynamic}

Which means it's really an... AMI Megaraid
Assuming it's:
HP NetRAID-1/Si
HP NetRAID-3/Si
HP Embedded NetRAID
Or perhaps Adaptec AdvancedRAID if:
HP NetRAID 4M

I've been thinking about this one (actually on the drive home from work, how sad!). And David_Wallis suggestion is the best I can think of, ie image it, change drives, re-image and then increase the size of the partition. Not particularly pretty, but having an Exchange running on a single partition system sucks.
For the price of the disks, can you not just add the disks and shift using perfwiz the information store across to that new partition.

Miles my suggestion would be along the same lines.
Take one 9 out put two 18's in in a mirrored pair and use the perwiz to move stuff around. Two advantages : Exchange is happier across multiple partitions and in the case of a boot drive failure (remember that PTMW! ) your data is safe...
I would say that your boss is being extremely miserable wanting the 9's out of there...

My thoughts exactly Willie.
If I delete this thread, can everyone post up in a new one saying how it can't be done please?
I think a second mirror pair it is.
Oh, do you get PerfWiz in Ex2000? I noticed an option to move the ISs in Sys Admin the other day.
Chris.

Duh, sorry my mistake, Perfwiz has gone in E2K. The same functionality is under Properties on your Storage Groups to shift the file locations, I think[1].
