GAMECUBE OVERTAKES XBOX IN UK
Nintendo's heavyweight plumber just makes the difference, but it's neck and neck for sloppy seconds as Christmas looms: get it here
17:39 Super Mario Sunshine has pushed GameCube ahead of Xbox in the UK for the first time in weeks, with Nintendo seeing a 45 percent increase in hardware sales as a result of the little plumber going on sale last Friday.
GameCube sold 5,860 units last week, slightly bettering Xbox's 5,591, a one percent loss on the previous week. Bear in mind that these figures are for the week ending Saturday, October 5, so Sunshine had only been on sale for two days. We'll find out if Mario has lasting appeal next week.
GBA sales were up 10 percent to 8,145, but PlayStation 2 is utterly unassailable at the top, selling a further 22,235 machines last week, down three percent on the week before. Expect that number to go through the roof as the Christmas cash hits the high street.
