new motherboard but which one??

Just got myself a gf4 ti 4200 graphics card for a vgood price, put it my system and hey presto it wont work!!!!! Im running an athlon 1600 processor on a crappy pc chips motherboard with a gf2 mx400 card ( which I have probs with!!) and 128mb nvram. So I've decided to bite the bullet and install a decent motherboard and some serious ram. Current thoughts are a Asus a7v8x motherboard circa 100 notes with 512 ddr 400 ram in a single stick circa 128 notes. Is this the best I can get for my hard earned pennies ?? I want a stable motherboard thats good for gaming ( especially ut). And do I need the 400 ram or will 333 be just as good (as well as being a lot cheaper)? When checking the benchmark sites 333 seems to be quicker but this doesn't make sense to me!!!!

Check out http://www.springbok-computers.co.uk
I just got a new board from them. Very good, very quick. Mention my name. You can add front and back USB ports, plus bluetooth and infrared.

looking at november 2002 issue of PCW, the editor's choice goes to chaintech 7VJL Apogee (£90 include VAT from www.scan.co.uk). great value goes to gigabyte GA-7VAXP (£99.88 from www.dabs.com) and highly recommended goes to MSI KT3 Ultra2-BR (£130 from www.komplett.co.uk)
PCW reviewed about 12 AMD-based and 18 intel-based m/board!
