...one of these.
Any reason not to? Is there any new technology coming in the next 6 months which might render this pointless/obsolete/etc?
Thoughts, opinions and alternatives welcomed.

Oooo, shiny
Been thinking about some sort of GPRS hookup for my laptop, don't happen to know what phone providers actually offer as an 'internet connection' kinda want a fixed IP. I've done the dialup with orange high speed to my Demon a/c, which at 28.8 is usable, but I'd like something nicer and I have the opportunity to make someone else pay for it

We've been trialing GPRS. and to eb honest I'm not that impressed. The number of times (for me) its more convenient to have a Wireless connection rather than find a phone socket and use an 0800 number are few and far between. GPRS coverage is variable. Admittedly our trial used SecureID tokens for access - which makes the login tortuous but even so.
At the moment still hovering around the "its a nice toy" level. Hopefully as GPRS technologies and coverages evolve just a little it wont be far from "useful"

I use GPRS all the time to access my email via WAP on my Siemens phone. It's not too bad, although it has on and off days. I'm just thinking that this might be a handy way of picking up emails when I'm on the train, out and about, etc. The bonus of having a wireless LAN capability too seems excellent, when compared to the Sierra and Merlin 'AirCards'.
